lego playstation set – a desk piece that actually feels like 1994
The lego playstation set 72306 is a near 1:1 scale brick-built replica of the original PlayStation console and its controller , an 18+ set intended for display. It is a near 1:1 scale replica you assemble yourself, then set out as a display piece that sparks memories of unforgettable games. The build recreates the familiar grey shape, and the original controller, so the silhouette is instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up with the first PlayStation.
The appeal is not just looks. The model is built to be handled and shown off. You can press the Open and Power buttons on the console and plug the controller into the front, then lift the lid to reveal the little worlds inside. That moment of opening it is where the set shifts from nostalgia object to conversation piece, and it reads as a nostalgic display piece for a gaming room or office desk rather than a toy.
Standout features
- Near 1:1 scale console: The set recreates the original PlayStation in a display size close to the real hardware, intended for adult collectors to show on a shelf or desk.
- To-scale controller: A detailed replica of PlayStation’s very first controller is included and designed to plug into the front of the console model.
- Working buttons: The Open and Power buttons on the console model move, adding a tactile detail that reinforces the feel of the original hardware.
- Hidden game dioramas: Opening the lid reveals two detailed scenes. One nods to Ape Escape, the 1999 release that first used the DualShock controller, with the iconic red or blue monkey helmet. The other highlights Gran Turismo, the pioneering racing game that became the best-selling title for the original PlayStation, with mini cars ready to race.
- Adult collectible display: The set is presented as an epic collectible for gamers, meant to be proudly displayed in a gaming room or office.
Who it is for
This is for the adult who lived through the PlayStation era and wants a physical reminder on their desk. It fits adult collectors who enjoy brick-built recreations and like to display them alongside other memorabilia. The build and the hidden scenes give the set a story to tell, which makes it satisfying for people who value detail and reference.
It works well as a gift for a nostalgic gamer. Think birthdays, Christmas or a housewarming for someone setting up a gaming space. It lands especially well with 90s PlayStation nostalgics, longtime fans of Ape Escape or Gran Turismo, and anyone who appreciates a walk down memory lane that they can assemble themselves and then keep on display.
What is worth knowing before buying
The set is an adult 18+ set and is a building kit, so assembly is required and it is meant for display, not as a functional game console. The manufacturer notes a household purchase limit to be fair to fans, so if you have already reached that limit through previous orders your entire order may be cancelled. It is a collectible model with working buttons and removable dioramas, not an electronic device, and the experience is about building and showing it rather than playing games.
